The rededication of the War Memorial at Memory Park was held on Thursday 11th July 2013, with Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE in attendance, as official guests. The Governor accompanied by Penrith City Council Mayor Mark Davies and President Neville Barnier, unveiled a Korean War Plaque and the Rededication Plaque, commemorating the return of the refurbished Memory Park, back to the people of Penrith.
Our annual Luncheon was held on August 11th, with 80 members and guests in attendance. It was a great opportunity to say thank you to all those organisations and individuals present who assist with the various activities of the sub-Branch. A special thank you to the Women’s Auxiliary, who are to be commended for their ongoing support and presentation of a cheque for $6,000 to RSL LifeCare. COL Alex (Sandy) MacGregor was guest speaker for the day. As a patron of MIVAC he spoke about his experience with the tunnels at Cu Chi, Vietnam and mine clearing in Thailand. As President of the
sub-Branch Mr Neville Barnier presented two cheques of $10,000 each to State President Shield and DefenceCare. Mr Paul Crofts was presented with Life Membership by RSL State President Mr Don Rowe OAM and Paul’s wife Barbara was presented with a letter of appreciation.
Our General Meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. This year at our August General Meeting we welcomed our first Affiliate Member,
Mr David Moore. Our next General Meeting is on October 15, the speaker will be from Parkinsons NSW. I look forward to seeing as many members
in attendance as possible, meetings commence at 7pm.
An important day on the sub-Branch calendar is approaching, the Remembrance Day ceremony. This year’s ceremony will be held on Monday, 11th
November at Memory Park. We advise all members who wish to attend should be at Memory Park by 10.30am.
With 2014 approaching, it means the time for membership renewals are close by. This year renewals will commence from 1st October 2013.
On closing, I would also like to welcome our most recent addition to the Penrith RSL sub-Branch, Aleata Cassells-Forward, who is undertaking the position of Office Secretary.
